What is aInternational Agreement Visa
A Temporary Work International Agreement Visa may be applied for if you will work in the UK under a contract based on international law or a treaty. This visa can be used to work in the following positions:
- A worker of a foreign administration or an established international organisation.
- A domestic in an ambassadorial family.
Ensure you qualify before applying. This visa supersedes the old Temporary Worker International Agreement (T5).
If you plan to offer your services to a UK company on a contract basis, then you will need to apply as a Service Supplier (Global Business Mobility) instead.
To receive a Temporary Work – International Agreement Visa, you have to:
- Possess a valid Certificate of Sponsorship by a validated UK sponsor.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Come to work in the UK on a contract governed by international law, e.g., working in an overseas government, a recognised global organisation, or as a private servant in a diplomatic household.
- Can maintain yourself (generally at least 1,270 kept available over 28 days, usually not excepted).
- If you work as a private servant, clear any English language requirements where the case applies.
- Your sponsor will have to ensure your job is compliant with UK wages and working conditions. Should it be that your employer will meet up with your living expenses, this should be contained in your Certificate of Sponsorship.
Instead, you should use a Service Supplier Visa (Global Business Mobility) when supplying services in a contract to a UK company.

Proving Your Identity and Providing Documents
You are required to provide your identity and attach your supporting documents as part of your application. The approach you take is based on your nationality and the type of passport you hold. Or you will:
- Scan your form of identity using the UK Immigration: ID Check app and create/sign in to your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account; or
- Visit one of the visa application centres and provide your fingerprints and a photo (biometric details) to complete the application process.
When you make your application, you will be informed which one is relevant to you. When you require an appointment at a visa application centre:
- The centre may require your documents and passport as part of their application process.
- You may need to travel to your closest centre, which may be located in another country.

Children and your partner may apply to be with you or remain in the UK as your dependents as long as they are eligible. Dependant refers to your spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner (where you have been living together for not less than 2 years), or child. Children are required to be younger than 18 (or over 18 in cases where they already have your permission to act as your dependent) and need to live with you.
You will be required to demonstrate that you are in a relationship and that you can afford to support yourself, except in cases of exemption. Every member of the family will need to submit an online application, including their application number (GWF or UAN), and verify their identity, either through the UK Immigration: ID Check app or by appearing in person at a visa centre.
When they are outside the UK and submit their applications, they must do so before traveling to the UK. If they wish to extend or switch within the UK, they must do so before the current visa expires. Additionally, they are not allowed to switch if they hold a short-term education or visit visa. Any children born in the UK are not automatically granted citizenship, but you should apply on their behalf for a dependent visa so that you can travel with the child.
Dependants are allowed to work (with some exceptions by occupation, e.g., as a sportsperson), study, travel, and do not have access to most public funds. A practical application typically corresponds to the expiry date of your visa.
It is possible to apply to extend the Temporary Work – International Agreement Visa; however, you must act before the current one expires, while you are still in the UK.

Eligibility To Extend
You should not lose any of the qualifications of your visa type.
When you are a private servant, you do not have to demonstrate once more that you know English. You have to, however, demonstrate evidence that you have received your salary within the past 3 months before you can apply. This includes:
- 3 months’ payslips, going back 3 months since you applied.
- Evidence of your salary being sent to your bank account.
Duration of Stay
The period of stay shall be a maximum of the following, depending on the kind of work:
- Government workers (abroad) or workers of an international organisation may remain here up to 2 years.
- Household workers of an individual working in a recognised international organisation can only remain for a maximum of 5 years in aggregate.
Application
Before your current visa expires, you need to apply online. After you log in to start working on your application, you can save your work and come back to it later when necessary. Remember to first inquire about the existing fees and requirements before applying.
If your Temporary Work-International Agreement Visa is approved, you will be permitted to remain in the UK for up to 24 months, or until the date specified in your Certificate of Sponsorship, plus any 14 days before and after the date mentioned above, whichever is shorter.
When you are seeking an extension of stay under this route, you will typically be authorized to continue with either:
- The period shown on your new Certificate of Sponsorship is for an additional 2 weeks before and after the period.
- The rest of the time available to you under this maximum 24-month period (calculated from the time that you last had permission granted to you under this visa route), whichever is less.
Ensure that you validate your Certificate of Sponsorship to confirm the dates you are permitted to remain.
