What Is the Global Talent Visa
The Global Talent route, which replaced the former Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa, provides an opportunity for individuals with international recognition or potential to work in the UK without sponsorship, salary thresholds, or restrictive employment conditions.
Applicants may apply through one of two routes:
- Endorsement Route: Apply for an endorsement from an authorised body confirming your leadership or potential leadership.
- Prestigious Prize Route: Apply directly if you hold a qualifying international award listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes.
There is no requirement for a job offer. You can work, establish a business, or collaborate in the UK freely within your endorsed field. Dependants may join you, and successful visa holders can progress toward settlement.
Applicants must demonstrate that they are either established leaders or emerging leaders in one of the qualifying sectors:
Digital Technology
Software engineering, artificial intelligence, product design, or other cutting-edge digital innovation.
Arts and Culture
Artists, writers, performers, producers, and cultural professionals with a proven record of creative excellence.
Academia and Research
Academics, scientists, and researchers who have contributed significant research or innovation within their field.
General Criteria
- You must be aged 18 or over.
- You must hold a valid endorsement or a qualifying award.
- You must show professional recognition and global impact in your area of expertise.
- You must meet all suitability and health requirements, including TB testing if required.

If you do not hold a qualifying international award, you must first obtain an endorsement from one of the approved endorsing bodies. These include organisations such as:
- Founders Forum Group (digital technology)
- Arts Council England (arts and culture)
- UK Research and Innovation (academia and research)
Although the GOV.UK platform has been streamlined into a single centralised application form, each endorsing body still applies its own evidence structure, typically requiring:
- A detailed CV
- Three reference letters
- Up to ten pieces of supporting evidence demonstrating mandatory and optional criteria
If your endorsement application is refused, the endorsement fee is non-refundable, making professional preparation essential.
Applicants who hold an award listed under Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes can bypass endorsement entirely and proceed straight to the visa stage.
Our solicitors can assess whether your award qualifies and guide you through direct application preparation.

Stage 1: Endorsement
We manage your endorsement submission to the relevant authorised body, such as Tech Nation (Founders Forum Group), Arts Council England, or UK Research and Innovation.
This stage involves an endorsement fee payable directly to the Home Office. The fee is non-refundable if the endorsement is refused, which is why submitting a fully reviewed and compliant application the first time is essential.
Stage 2: Visa Application
Once endorsed, you have 90 days to submit your visa application.
Applicants who hold a qualifying international award may bypass the endorsement stage and apply directly for the visa.
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
Applicants must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, which grants full access to the National Health Service (NHS) for the duration of their stay.
The amount is calculated based on the number of years requested on the visa and must be paid in full when submitting the application.
Our team will confirm all applicable Home Office fees and healthcare surcharge rates at the time of instruction and ensure that all costs are clearly outlined before your application is submitted.
Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain)
The Global Talent Visa provides a pathway to permanent residence in the UK.
- Exceptional Talent (Leaders): Eligible for settlement after three years of continuous residence.
- Exceptional Promise (Emerging Leaders): Eligible after five years, except those in science or research, who may also qualify after three years.
Applicants must continue to work in their endorsed field and meet the income or professional activity criteria required by the Home Office.

The Global Talent Visa is a prestigious but complex route. A significant number of self-prepared applications are rejected due to insufficiently structured evidence or unclear narratives.
We provide a bespoke end-to-end legal service including:
- Endorsement Review and Non-Refundable Fee Protection
We ensure every piece of evidence meets the required standard, avoiding the cost and time loss of an endorsement refusal. - Narrative Mapping and Evidence Strategy
We do not simply compile documents. Our solicitors create a persuasive narrative that demonstrates international recognition and aligns your achievements with Home Office criteria. - Decision-Ready Submission
With endorsing bodies experiencing high volumes and longer review times, our team ensures your file is compliant, complete, and ready for immediate assessment. - Settlement and Compliance Planning
From endorsement to settlement, we help you meet the “earned in your field” requirements, ensuring a clear path to Indefinite Leave to Remain.
Supporting Documents
When applying, you should prepare:
- A valid passport or national identity document
- Proof of endorsement or qualifying award
- Evidence of your achievements and career impact
- Certified translations for non-English documents
- TB test results (if required)
- Written consent from any recent government sponsor (if applicable)
Our solicitors review all supporting materials to ensure each document satisfies Home Office evidential standards.
